President

Welcome, delegates!

My name is Albert Slabbert, and I’m a senior at Hsinchu International School. I’m truly honored to serve as your President of HRC for this year’s NTMUN conference. I’m excited to be working alongside my Deputy President, Cobie. I will focus on issue (202) Addressing the impacts of propaganda on refugees.

MUN has completely changed how I see debating. It’s not just a formal discussion; it’s an opportunity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds. I’m really looking forward to collaborating with all of you. Whether this is your first conference or your last, I hope you make the most of NTMUN and experience the same excitement I feel at every conference. My hope is that you’ll leave this conference with something valuable, whether that’s new friendships or a deeper understanding of global issues.

A bit about me: I have a strong passion for politics and enjoy binge-watching political shows like Scandal and Designated Survivor. I’m currently serving my second term as President of our school’s Student Council, where I tend to obsess over every detail. Outside of school, I love playing tennis.

If you ever need help with procedures or have questions about drafting resolutions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can contact me via email at (07044@hdis.hc.edu.tw) or on Instagram (@albertgslabbert). See you in February!

Deputy President

Hi! My name is Cobie, and I am a sophomore at VIS International School in Taipei. This year, I have the honor of serving as your Deputy President of the Human Rights Council at NTMUN, which will be marking my 15th conference and third time chairing. Beyond MUN, I am a passionate scuba/free diver and a lover of cuisines of all kinds. Over time, I’ve learned the value of “quality over quantity,” a principle I hope you will carry with you not only throughout NTMUN but also in the following ones. Last but most certainly not least, I want to emphasize that MUN is not just about debate. The UN is a forum for negotiation and collaboration. Debate certainly has its place when ideals clash, but it should never be the “only” thing. Always remember to listen, to ask questions, and to actively seek diversity and inclusion of voices within the committee. Persuade with evidence rather than relying on dominance, and you will find the true spirit of diplomacy. With that, I can’t wait to return to NTMUN, my favorite conference, and to meet every single one of you there!
